Club History
The Qantas Sailing Club was formed on the 27th of October 1971 and is still running to the present day. The club sailed several types of one design boats including the "Senior 14" - pictured right. The Senior 14 dinghy was a modified NS14 that could be sailed by two adults without trapezes or spinnakers. The need for a one class fleet resulted in club members building over twenty Senior 14 dinghies between 1974 and 1981. Shortly after the club was formed in 1971, it held its first interline regatta with a team from Japan Airlines Sailing Club, which was sailed on Botany Bay in Sydney's south. In November 1974 the club promoted and hosted the very first World Airline Sailing Championships which was held on Sydney Harbour. The club has hosted the World Airline Sailing Championships in 1974 (inaugural regatta), 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2014. The Qantas Sailing Club is made up of current and retired employees of the Qantas Group. Club members are active in many different sailing activities including local club sailing, international regattas, worldwide yacht relocation and crewing on tall ships.
